1. Since we wrapped up a chapter in Social Studies, we're moving into our first Science unit: Rocks and Minerals. I actually LOVE this chapter because rocks are so easy to find and investigate. I even made a Promethean Planet presentation for rocks. I'll post the address when it makes it to Promethean Planet.
2. In Reading, we're reading Allie's Basketball Dream by Barb Barber. This is an adorable story about a girl who wants to play basketball even with her friends and the boys in the other basketball court who tell her, "Basketball is a sport for boys." I LOVE a story about girls who succeed against the odds!
3. Of course, we'll be reading and learning about Christopher Columbus who discovered America on October 12, 1492. It's easy for me to remember that date since it's my birthday. I was born in 1960 so you can do the math to figure out how old I am.
4. We'll be doing center this week. There will be 2 math and 2 literacy centers.
5. The kids will be copying over their rough drafts about their bedrooms. In our Trait Writing Journals, there was a prompt about your perfect bedroom, but I modified it to be about the kids' real rooms.
Next weekend is a long weekend - just in time to celebrate my birthday - how lucky is that!
How great is it that you got a long weekend to celebrate your birthday!!! Enjoy!
