It's Sunday nights so it's time to link up with Jennifer at Mrs.Laffin's Laughings for A Peek at My Week!
Did you know that January is National Braille Literacy month? This week we'll be reading a book Mom's Best Friend by Sally Hobart Alexander.
The author of this book used to be a teacher until she became blind. Now she's an author and a blogger:

In this book, the author tells us about getting a new seeing eye dog named Ursula who is a beautiful German Shepherd. I like to read the book from the library first because it contains background information that explains why the author has gone to Seeing Eye to get a new guide dog. Then we read the second part in our reading book which details what it's like when the author comes home with the new dog.
Additionally, I got out several Braille books from the library. Every year, a student ends up asking this question: Do blind people drive? or Why can't blind people drive? It's a good thing we read and learn about this.
In Science, we're having a 4 page chapter test on the Water Cycle. Luckily, there's no snow in the forecast so far.
Also, we'll be learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as doing some writing activities about our dreams.
Have a wonderful week!
Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteBe sure to take your class around the building and in the elevator, all (most) of the signs in the building are in braille.
