A Peek at my Week!

Oops, I'm a day late, but I'm here to link up with Mrs. Laffin for:

This week we're going to be doing MCAS (our state test) practice.  On deck, we have a story about the Statue of Liberty; The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Pinkwater; Munchkin by Betsy Byars. These are all released items with multiple choice questions and a writing component.  Right now I'm still reading the stories to the kids and modeling how to go back and look for the answers.  This is particularly important when writing the answers to questions.  The kids need to include examples directly from the text.  Plus, many questions reference a certain paragraph so the students need to go back and reread the paragraph.  Going back to get information from the text involves time and effort which means the kids find it difficult.  Hopefully, I'll be able to convince them that it's definitely worth their time and effort.

In Science, we'll be wrapping up the Weather chapter by learning about weather maps and forecasting weather.  I read in The Boston Globe yesterday that Puxatauney Phil the Groundhog's weather forecast is correct 39% of the time.  That's pretty amazing.

In Math, we'll be finishing a chapter on word problems while forging ahead in multiplication.  Next up:  the 9x facts.

Most importantly, I'm hoping for another

day week with little/no snow and moderate temperatures.

Have a wonderful week!
