It's a little late, but I'm still linking up with Mrs. Laffin for:
Bonnie Cabbage Plants
Last year a PTO parent enrolled the third graders in the Bonnie Cabbage Plant Program. You can check it out here: http://bonniecabbageprogram.com/
Our cabbage plants arrived on Friday afternoon, and there's going home next week. Here's what they look like:
These plants have grown tremendously in such a short amount of time!
The kids grow the plants at home. When the plants are full grown, the kids can take a picture of themselves with their cabbage plant and bring it to school in the fall. We'll pick one "winner" from the Goodyear School and submit his/her picture to the company. The Bonnie Cabbage Program randomly picks one student to win a $1,000 scholarship from each state.
Reading
This week we're reading one of my favorite books:
If you've never read this book, it is definitely worth checking out because it's a true story, and it's adorable. Also, it makes a great comparison activity with Make Way For Ducklings.
Poetry Month
We have been writing haikus and poems called "pensees." These poems are also syllable-based so it gives the kids some guidelines.
I'll post some examples at the end of the week.
Have a wonderful week!
So glad you could link up this week! Those cabbage plants look like a lot of fun. A few years ago, I began an after school gardening club at my school and would have loved a project like this. Have a great rest of your week!
