On the last day of school this year, two of my former students came back to visit my class with a Scaredy Squirrel book they had made themselves in 4th grade!  They had loved the books so much in 3rd grade that they created their own version.  First, read this old blog post to see why this is relevant.

My Favorite Read Aloud - Squaredy Squirrel

I am loving this week's link up over at The Teacher's Chair

All the Squared Squirrel books by Melanie Watt are amazing read-alouds!  I highly recommend these books - I think there are 5 Squaredy Squirrel books now, and each one is engaging and humorous.  At the end of the last school year, my students were even making their own version of Squaredy Squirrel books with titles such as Squaredy Squirrel Plays Hockey, Squaredy Squirrel Goes to the Circus...  The books were really creative, and I still regret that I didn't get pictures of some of the students' books.

This is Melanie Watt's latest Squaredy Squirrel book so check out any of her books, and you'll become a fan, too!

Additionally, there is now an exciting Squaredy Squirrel web site:  http://scaredysquirrel.com/

Here are Ruby and Jessica with their own book:  Scaredy Squirrel Hates Summer:

The best parts were my current students got to enjoy hearing this book read to them by Ruby and Jessica, and I remembered to take a picture.  Now the circle is complete.

Have a wonderful 4th of July!

  1. I just LOVE when students return the next year or even eons after they have left me to share a favorite memory from when they were in my class. Thanks for sharing! Thanks also for linking up for Throwback Thursday!
